The stop on Mount 'Arafat.
After dawn, on the ninth day of Dhu'l Hiyyá, the pilgrims
start walking towards Mount Arafat, shouting all together: labbayka labbayka
and Allah Akbar (God is Great). Then, they wait from noon until sunset and do
the midday and afternoon prayers. They raise their hands as a sign of prayer
and thanksgiving, repeating the words of the Prophet:
"There is no other God but God, He has no associates,
He is the authority and the prayer, Good comes from Him and has power over
everything."
The height of 'Arafat is one of the major rites of the
Pilgrimage. He who does not comply can not be called a pilgrim.
Those who, taking into account the circumstances, can not
reach the mountain before nightfall, can do so after the sun's fall and even,
until the dawn of the day of sacrifice, which is the tenth of Dhu'l Hiyyá.
Regarding this, the Prophet said:
"He who witnessed our prayer - that of the dawn of the
Day of Sacrifice - and remains with us until we fulfill our sacrifice, after
having previously stopped on the mountain 'Arafat, during the day or night, has
fulfilled his Pilgrimage . "
And he also said: "there is no Pilgrimage without 'Arafat,
the one who arrives on the night of Al Gam' (that is to say the night of
Muzdalifa), before the dawn of the Day of Sacrifice he has fulfilled the
essential rites of his Pilgrimage".
